The Golden Rule of Treating a Gem?

Treat them as you'd want to be treated...Well almost. In the spirit of doing "whatever it takes" to look our best we must not forget that our gems/accessories also sometimes need a little help to achieve that look. Sometimes treatments of the gems can enhance the natural beauty of the stone; a little bleaching or some coatings of the gem, let's consider those the equivalent of a facial or a manicure for a stone. Other times treatments such as Surface Diffusion or Irridation can drastically alter the state of the stone, let's consider those treatments the face-lift or implant for the stone. Both ways are meant to enhance the stone and in reality a gem for one isn't a gem for all just like beauty treatments of today. So in the spirit of treating ourselves check out the full article on our website @ Skylightjewelers.com

Clouds and a Custom Guitar...

While our main focus here at Skylight Jewelers is Jewelry, we still love to support our local artists. Whether it's local artist Josh Simpson's magnificent inhabitated spheres; Martin Kremer's imaginative fused glass elipses or Wade Sylvester's hand made Guitar we appreciate their skill and are proud to showcase their items.
Recently we've seen an increased amount of play from our patrons on Wade Sylvester's guitar hand-crafted from imported Black limba, Cocobola Rosewood and Lutz spruce. While this guitar turns head by it's mere estetics and unique woods, the sound quality is what keeps guitarists coming back for more. It has been described as "unreal", "epic", "warm", "heart-felt" and by one patron "this guitar that allows a soul to speak." As each musician plays the guitar sings beautifully and it creates a whole new appreciation for not only the music and the guitar but also for the maker and that we have the privledge of carrying such a fantastic piece.
We hope that you music enthusiasts as well as music lovers will stop by and check out Wade's piece.

Tarrytown or Bust...

Well at 11am this morning the talented Mr.Spencer and his trust-worthy sidekick Raymond departed for the Crafts at Lyndhurst show put on by Artrider (http://www.artrider.com/). For the past 25 years Artrider and Lyndhurst have sponsered many upcoming and local artist with this venue. It's a New York staple and people come from all over to view, exhibit and showcase their goods. This year the duo will be exhibiting in style as we have a numerous amount of new pieces as well as a few classics (never fear the signature moonstones are always available). A few new pieces from Spencer are a beautiful pair of Tsavorite Garnet earrings that are unreal in the most luscious lime color and white gold setting. A pair of figurine earrings that hoop around as if the acrobat is in mid swing; also a circular cut Sunstone in a simple bezel pendant setting for a necklace but this Sunstone has specs of red running through it and when held up to the skin it looks as if it's got an ethereal glow behind it...Very exciting pieces!!!
We will keep you all up to date with all the Show details/stories as the reports come in!
